By March 29, 2006No Comments

In New York, a thousand people from diverse communities gathered for the “We Are America” town hall featuring Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and NY members of Congress in support of humane immigration reform. At the February 27th event, Senator McCain spoke eloquently of how the bill he co-sponsors, the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, will reform the broken immigration system. In conclusion, he shared graphic descriptions of the tragic suffering and deaths of people in the Arizona desert to remind everyone that this is first and foremost a human rights issue. S.J. Jung, NAKASEC Action Fund founding board member and YKASEC President, presented Senator McCain with a framed copy of “Dollar-A-Person” National Immigration Reform AD that ran in The New York Times in October 2005.Sponsored by YKASEC and other immigrant rights, labor and faith-based organizations, the town hall is part of series of events being held in cities across the country.
