Reducing Barriers to Citizenship

On March 13, 2009, immigrant rights organizations delivered a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to call for a reduction back to $400.00.In July 2007, the fees jumped up to $675.00, creating a barrier for many of our community members to become citizens.

NAKASEC and its affiliates, the Korean American Resource & Cultural Center (KRCC) and the Korean Resource Center (KRC), submitted 41 organizational endorsements. A total of 358 organizations signed on. (Final copy of organizational sign on letter)

At the same time, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) circulated a Dear Colleague letter among her peers and 14 additional Representatives signed on, paralleling our community efforts. (Final copy of Dear Colleague letter)
