We invite you to NAKASEC and our Virginia affiliate’s Virtual Gala: Pursuing our Dreams! On Thursday, June 24th, 7 PM EST, supporters from across the nation will be coming together to celebrate and generate support for our powerful organizing and advocacy, civic engagement, leadership development and critical service programs.

We truly hope you can join our celebration of community power and resilience! While it’s free for all to attend, we do encourage folks who register to give a donation or become a sponsor so we can continue to pursue our collective dreams of citizenship and healthcare for all.

With the talents of our featured performers, the evening will be filled with live magic and music, alongside the unveiling of NAKASEC VA’s new name!

Thao Nguyen

Thao Nguyen

Thao Nguyen is a veteran artist, songwriter, touring musician, and producer, born and raised in Northern Virginia and currently based in Oakland, California. Her latest album, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down‘s ‘Temple‘, was released in May of 2020 on Ribbon Music.

Linda Hung

Linda Hung is a Taiwanese-American magician based in New York City. Before the pandemic, she has performed in-person for all sorts of companies like Nordstrom and All Saints, but since the pandemic started, Linda began performing virtually for the past year. Through virtual magic, she was able to perform for people all over the world from Brazil all the way to the UK. Linda will bring magic from your screen into your hands at the comfort of your home. Join Linda in her virtual shows to be immersed in this unique experience.

Nobuko Miyamoto

Nobuko Miyamoto

Nobuko Miyamoto is an artivist who uses song, dance and theater to explore ways to reclaim and decolonize our minds, bodies, histories, communities, and to create solidarity across cultural borders. Originally a dancer performing on Broadway and in films, she found her own voice as an activist and singer in the Asian American Movement creating with Chris Iijima and Charlie Chin the iconic album A Grain of Sand (1973, Paredon/Smithsonian Folkways). In 1978 she established Great Leap, creating musicals, concerts, albums, music videos and most recently FandangObon, a festival of art, cultures, earth. Nobuko has just released a double album, 120,000 Stories, with Smithsonian Folkways. In June 2021, her memoir, Not Yo’ Butterfly: My Long Song of Relocation, Race, Love and Revolution will be published by University of California Press.
