DREAM Moves Along

By March 28, 2006 No Comments

After intensive DREAM Act advocacy efforts through the September DREAM Fast Vigil Campaign, the DREAM Act was re-introduced by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) through the Department of Justice Appropriations Authorization Bill (S. 2863).Despite the fact that the DREAM Act and the Department of Justice Bill did not make mark up before Congress recessed, it still has a chance for discussion during lame duck session which is set to begin November 16th.What is more, The House version of the Department of Justice Bill already passed the House floor, without the Student Adjustment Act language.Should the Senate bill survive, the two Department of Justice bills will go into conference committee for reconciliation.NAKASEC urges community members to call the members of Senate Judiciary Committee as part of our on-going advocacy efforts.Names and phone numbers of the Senate Judiciary Committee can be found at http://judiciary.senate.gov/members.cfm.
