Albany Day 2004

YKASEC represented the Korean American contingent of the newly formed Korean American Open Forum Network for the annual Albany Advocacy Day on March 16th.Forum members joined 600 other immigrant rights organizations, social service agencies, community members, and labor unions to advocate for the rights of immigrants.50 Korean American community members were mobilized to meet with state assembly members to address urgent immigrant concerns such as language access to hospitals and state agencies, immigrant worker rights, funding for ESOL classes and legal services, investments and policies to meet educational needs of newcomer students, and the need for revenues to prevent cuts in services.Most importantly, community members voiced concerns of the Department of Motor Vehicle’s recent action in sending “social security no-match” letters to certain groups of driver’s license holders.
