Citizenship Campaign

By March 28, 2006No Comments

(Spring, 1998)
The issue of citizenship has taken on a special importance due to restrictions on non-citizen benefits and the prominence and potential of the immigrant voting power in shaping American politics. Throughout this year, NAKASEC mobilized hundreds of Korean Americans to participate in rallies and press events calling for a fair citizenship process and an end to the citizenship backlog. Korean American elderly and those stuck in the backlog were especially encouraged to speak out. NAKASEC staff spoke at citizenship-related press conferences and rallies in New York, Washington, DC, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The majority of Korean Americans are not yet citizens and will be applying for citizenship in the future.
