NAKASEC Network Applauds the Designation of TPS Status for Cameroon

Washington, D.C. – On Friday April 15, the Biden administration announced the designation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Cameroon. The culmination of years of efforts by Haitian Bridge Alliance, Cameroon Advocacy Network, and UndocuBlack Network, the designation is a welcome and much-needed step towards creating a more humane and just immigration system.

Jung Woo Kim, Co-Director of the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) shared, “NAKASEC commends the Haitian Bridge Alliance, Cameroon Advocacy Network, and UndocuBlack Network for their immense work over the years. This welcome news from the Biden-Harris’ administration will allow Cameroonians to seek asylum. We echo our partners at the UndocuBlack Network and urge the administration to immediately issue a Federal Register Notice (FRN), waive registration fees, and ensure that implementation is culturally competent and focused on reaching impacted communities.

While this is an important step toward dismantling anti-Black sentiment within the immigration system, there is more work to be done. We implore the administration to continue designating TPS for other countries, including but not limited to, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mauritania, and Nicaragua. “
