Hundreds Gather to Support Immigration Reform
On January 21, more than 800 faith leaders and community members gathered in front of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) headquarters in Washington D.C. to urge a moratorium on the raids and immigration reform. As a member of the executive committee of Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), NAKASEC helped organize the rally and brought in Reverend Norman Fong of the Chinatown Community Development Center (San Francisco) to speak. Following the rally, everyone marched to Westminster Presbyterian Church for a community forum. It was co-moderated by EunSook Lee, executive director of NAKASEC, and Gustavo Torres, executive director of CASA de Maryland. Staff of NAKASEC’s two affiliate centers – Korean American Resource and Cultural Center (Chicago) and Korean Resource Center (Los Angeles) –participated and did media outreach in their respective cities.
