Biden wins! The opportunity of our future!
North Wales, PA – For the 2020 Election, our community and our fellow Americans were heard at the ballot box and resoundingly ended the Trump administration.
This election, Asian American voters showed up to shape the kind of country our community needs and deserves. We are the fastest growing racial group and voting bloc in the United States. Beyond anything else, the work of NAKASEC and our Affiliates in Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia, Illinois, and Texas has shown our community power. Specifically in Pennsylvania, the state that determined the 2020 Election, NAKASEC and the Woori Center, our PA Affiliate, reached out to Korean and Asian American voters where we made 180,000 calls, sent over 70,000 text messages, coordinated an ethnic media campaign, and created bilingual election guides in English and Korean. We came out in force, and our voices and votes made a difference.
Becky Belcore, Executive Director of NAKASEC, expressed:
“While we must take a moment to celebrate that our democracy will remain intact, we know the fight is not over. This electoral victory creates the opportunity for our community to organize for citizenship for all 11 million undocumented immigrants, the abolition of ICE, an immediate moratorium on all deportations, defunding the police, and healthcare for all.”
President-Elect Biden committed to place a moratorium on deportations and establish a pathway to citizenship for all 11 million undocumented immigrants, as well as creating a public option for healthcare. We witnessed those promises, and we will hold him and his administration accountable. The power of immigrants, people of color, and other marginalized groups is coalescing across the country, and we will organize until we achieve justice!
