ICE Murdered Again, This Time a Texan Father

HOUSTON – On Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) killed yet another community member, this time a beloved father, husband, and son who built a home, career, and family in Texas. A construction business owner, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo lived in Texas for 35 years and put his three children through college before his life was cut short by a masked agent in an unmarked car.

NAKASEC Texas, the Texas chapter of the National Korean American Service and Education Consortium (NAKASEC), released the following statement in response.

“Our hearts are with Lorenzo’s loved ones and our Houston community. Lorenzo should be here with his wife and his children, his co-workers, and his neighbors. We are angry and heartbroken at this injustice. We demand a full, independent investigation of Lorenzo’s murder and for his murderer to be held accountable.

In the last year, ICE has been given over $240 billion to carry out the administration’s mass deportation agenda and a green light to act as they please with no accountability. They are murdering fathers, mothers, nurses, teachers, and loved ones in the street – and still Congress gives them more of our money. Any agency that can operate outside the law and is immune from accountability is a danger to our country.

Every person – whether they are a citizen or not, whether they are Black or white, brown or Asian – deserves to live safely and be treated with dignity. We will continue to fight for America to be a true democracy, where every person’s humanity is respected and their rights upheld.”
