To celebrate the beginning of an exciting summer, KRC hosted a unity picnic in Torrance, California on June 20 with senior leaders, youth, and volunteers. This was an opportunity for KRC’s multigenerational community members to get to know one another and build community with good food, good company, and fun activities.

Chicago Budget Cuts RallyKRCC Budget Cuts Rally
On July 1 in Chicago, KRCC participated in an action against Governor Bruce Rauner’s cuts to vital immigration services. About 1,500 residents joined the rally to urge Governor Rauner to restore funding to essential services and stop targeting marginalized communities.

KRCC Summer YouthKRCC Summer Youth Empowerment Camp
From June 23 to 26, KRCC hosted its third annual Summer Youth Empowerment Camp (SYEC), an intensive one-week training for youth leaders to develop their organizing, advocacy, arts, and social justice skills. The camp began with an analysis of power and privilege and delved deep into issues that impact communities of color and immigrant communities, such as civic engagement and immigrant rights.
