Founded by local community-based organizations in 1994, NAKASEC’s mission is to organize Korean and Asian Americans to achieve social, racial and economic justice.  NAKASEC’s network includes Hamkae Center in Northern Virginia, Woori Juntos in Houston, HANA Center in greater Chicago, Woori Center in greater Philadelphia, and MinKwon Center for Community Action in New York City.  Together, we empower the most vulnerable community members including the low-income, recent immigrant, limited English proficient, undocumented, youth, women and seniors.  Through education, social service, community organizing, public policy advocacy and civic participation, the NAKASEC network ensures that these community members can impact progressive change at the local and national levels.

NAKASEC is one of the few national Asian American organizations that engages grassroots people in national organizing and advocacy programs and campaigns.  NAKASEC and affiliates strongly believe that systemic change that benefits everyone results when folks who are most impacted by injustice act collectively through organizing, advocacy and civic engagement.

The Finance & Operations Administrator will work closely with the Finance & Operations Director to ensure NAKASEC and NAKASEC Action Fund’s finances and regularly managed and adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.  They will report to the Finance & Operations Director.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Record daily financial transactions for online donations and enter data for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions

  • Complete monthly reconciliations for bank and credit card statements

  • Maintain filing system for source documents (grant award letters, invoices, receipts, etc.)

  • Process bi-weekly payroll

  • Prepare invoices for cost-sharing arrangements

  • Prepare tax acknowledgement letters for donors

  • Make bank deposits for checks and cash received

  • Provide documentation to NAKASEC and NAKASEC Action Fund funders and donors as needed.

  • Produce monthly Year-To-Date reports for NAKASEC Management Team and NAKASEC projects

  • Produce monthly Year-To-Date reports for NAKASEC Action Fund Management Team and NAKASEC Action Fund projects

  • Order office supplies and make purchases on behalf of staff as approved by their supervisors

  • Contact vendors in case of technical assistance (employee cell phones, hotspots, etc.)

  •  Maintain donor information in Powerbase

  • Attend staff meetings, manager meetings, and other meetings as needed

  • Assist NAKASEC Co-Directors with administrative projects as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or finance

  • Minimum 2 years of bookkeeping experience or similar finance experience

  • Proficiency in English

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel & Google Sheets

  • Basic understanding of accounting systems (such as Quickbooks)

  • Data entry skills, particularly attention to detail

  • Ability to problem-solve independently

  •  Ability to work efficiently and to complete tasks in a timely manner

  • Demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice

  • Committed to eradicating racism, sexism, queerphobia and transphobia, and other systems of oppression
