NAKASEC Joins VACOLAO and Virginia Organizations Opposing New Wave of ICE Raids Targeting Vulnerable Central American Families

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — In response to confirmed reports about the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to lead another surge of raids targeting vulnerable families from Central America, the National Korean American Service and Education Consortium (NAKASEC) joined a press conference led by the Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO) to condemn this new wave of raids. VACOLAO, NAKASEC, Legal Aid Justice Center, Centreville Immigration Forum, Virginia Coalition of Immigrant Rights (VACIR), and United Workers of Washington DC gathered at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, Virginia, as part of the national call to action, to express deep concern over the fear that these actions ignite in our communities.
Emily Kessel, Advocacy Director at NAKASEC, said: “These Central American mothers and children asylum seekers who are fleeing danger in their home countries and have a right to access legal counsel. The AAPI community has stood in solidarity with partners against this atrocity during previous raids and we stand in solidarity now. We urge the administration ensure that due process is upheld and the rights of these vulnerable families are protected.”
