NAKASEC Invites Community Members to Adoptee Defense Fundraiser

ANNANDALE, VIRGINIA— On Thursday, December 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) will host a fundraiser event in Washington D.C. (400 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington DC 20001, Community Room) to raise money for the Adoptee Defense Fund, which would support the immigration legal fees and counseling resources of Adam Crapser, a Korean American adoptee who was placed in deportation proceedings at the beginning of 2015, as well as other adoptees similarly situated.

The fundraiser will take place one week after Adam’s immigration hearing on December 10, 2015. NAKASEC will deliver a petition with over 2,500 signatures to Adam’s immigration judge and other related decision makers. NAKASEC, and its affiliates, the Korean American Resource and Cultural Center (KRCC) and Korean Resource Center (KRC), will continue to collect signatures for future hearings.

Emily Kessel, Advocacy Director at NAKASEC, said: “On December 10th, I will join two other Korean adoptees sent by NAKASEC, KRCC, and KRC in Portland to show the immigration judge that we, and over 2,500 community signers, stand with Adam and the adoptees across the nation who do not have U.S. citizenship. We ask community leaders and community members to support Adam and others in similar situations by joining us on December 17th for the Adoptee Defense Fundraiser. Please call the NAKASEC office at 703-256-2208 for any additional questions.”
