Mother’s Day Weekend Actions Across the Country
WASHINGTON DC – On Saturday, May 10, immigrant rights leaders and impacted community members in 24 cities across the country are announcing their civic engagement efforts for the year to expand and increase the number of Latino, Asian, and immigrant voters, targeting in high-growth areas for immigrant populations. The activities are also being held on Mother’s Day weekend to support immigrant mothers and their children.
The Korean American Resource and Cultural Center (KRCC) in Chicago, Illinois is holding an interfaith forum with the Coalition of African, Arab, Asian, European and Latino Immigrants of Illinois (CAAAELII), faith leaders, and elected officials at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Chicago. They will also be focusing on a voter registration drive with youth and the immigrant community in Chicago.
In Buena Park, California, the Korean Resource Center (KRC) of Los Angeles, California, is holding a voter registration drive at Hannam Chain. They will be reaching out to immigrant voters in the surrounding community.
To support the efforts on the ground, NAKASEC and Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations and community members are tweeting visual messages hourly, urging Speaker Boehner to give us a vote on immigration reform with a path to citizenship and in support of keeping immigrant families together.
