NAKASEC Network Welcomes Biden’s Nomination of Julie Su For U.S. Secretary of Labor
Washington, D.C. – On February 28, President Biden announced his nomination of Julie Su as the next Secretary of Labor. If confirmed, Su would be the first Asian secretary of the administration’s cabinet.
The National Korean American Service and Education Consortium (NAKASEC) Network, a national network composed of five affiliates in six states, released the following statement:
“We support President Biden’s nomination of Deputy Secretary Julie Su to the role of Director of the Department of Labor,” said NAKASEC Co-Director Jung Woo Kim. “Not only is it critical for the administration to more accurately reflect the nation’s diverse communities, Deputy Secretary Su is a brilliant and skilled leader who has fought for workers and workers’ rights for years. She not only reflects our community but our values. In her work both as a civil rights attorney and within the government, Su has fought wage theft, raised the minimum wage, and protected trafficked and forced laborers. As an organization serving Korean and Asian Americans and immigrants, we find Su’s long history of protecting all workers – including immigrants without legal status, heartening and direly needed.”
