NAKASEC Joins Immigrant Rights Advocates and Impacted Children and Families for the Prayer for Justice Highlighting the Importance of SCOTUS to Hear DAPA & DACA+ Case
WASHINGTON DC —On December 11, the National Korean American Service and Education Consortium (NAKASEC) joined the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), CASA, and other immigrant rights advocates in front of the Supreme Court for a “Prayer for Justice” and news conference shedding light on the importance of having the Supreme Court hear the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) case.
The Prayer for Justice kicks off the “Give the Gift of Family” social media campaign to highlight stories of impacted families and children of undocumented immigrants and how for some the holidays have become a time of discomfort with not knowing whether their loved ones will be with them much longer due to the threat of deportation. NAKASEC and its affiliates, the Korean American Resource and Cultural Center (KRCC) and Korean Resource Center (KRC) are joining the social media campaign to emphasize that the temporary halt on the implementation of DAPA and expanded DAPA is deeply affecting the lives of Asian American immigrant families.
Executive Director of the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) Dae Joong Yoon, Executive Director of the Korean American Resource & Cultural Center (KRCC) Inhe Choi, and Interim Executive Director of the Korean Resource Center (KRC) Jenny Seon, said: “We continue to urge the Supreme Court to take up the important case on the expanded DACA and DAPA programs and emphasize how this case directly impacts the lives of millions of Asian American, Latino, and immigrant families nationwide. This case is about the real lives of children and parents. We hear their stories on a regular basis at our centers in California, Illinois, and Virginia about the sacrifices they made to better lives for themselves and their families. At this critical moment in time, we encourage community members of all immigration statuses from undocumented to U.S. citizens to come together and join the fight for a permanent solution, a fair and humane comprehensive immigration reform, for our community at large.”
