NAKASEC and Affiliates Respond to Super Tuesday Results
WASHINGTON DC — Community members in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia cast their ballots on March 1st, Super Tuesday, voting in Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump as the top Democratic and Republican presidential candidate winners. Clinton strengthened her momentum by winning 1,001 delegates of the Democratic delegate count with her contender Bernie Sanders trailing behind at 371. Winning 285 delegate of the Republican delegate count, Trump came out far ahead of his contenders Ted Cruz with 161 and Marco Rubio with 87. The National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) kept office phone lines open to field questions from community members voting in the primaries and will be continuing to build its civic engagement work through November for the Presidential Elections.
NAKASEC Executive Director Dae Joong Yoon, KRCC Executive Director Inhe Choi, and KRC Los Angeles Director Joon Bang, shared their reaction to the primary results: “We applaud all community members who exercised their right to vote in the primaries. We will hold the winners of Super Tuesday elections accountable for answering to our growing community of Asian American and immigrant voters as we continue to encourage eligible individuals to naturalize, register to vote, and volunteer to turn out more voters at upcoming elections. America will not stand for the hateful, xenophobic rhetoric we have been hearing from many anti-immigrant candidates. Many candidates have been making promises to the immigrant community, so we are counting on these promises to translate into concrete action. The Korean American and Asian American population has an opportunity to make the Asian American vote count in every election.”
