Building America’s Future Together: Immigration Reform NOW!

WHAT:
A press conference to announce the launch of “Building America’s Future Together: Immigration Reform NOW!” a National Mobilization of Asian Pacific Americans. In the coming weeks Korean American and Asian Pacific American communities will travel to Washington DC for a historic 2-day gathering in support of just and humane immigration reform.

WHEN:
TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 2007, 2:00 PM

WHERE:
Korean Resource Center
900 Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90019

WHO:
Esther Choi, LACES High School and Member of KRC’s Youth Group ORAnGE
Jae Ae Choi, Senior Community Leader
Eun Sook Lee, National Korean American Service & Education Consortium
Hee Joo Yoon, Korean Resource Center

WHY:
With the recent introduction of H.R. 1645, there is renewed hope that workable and humane immigration reform legislation could pass into law this year. Korean Americans and APAs have a large stake in the immigration debate outcomes: 1.5 million in our communities are undocumented, family members have to wait years before they are reunited, civil liberties and civil rights are being eroded, and young children are being denied the opportunity to go to college. The “Building America’s Future Together” mobilization will encompass dialogue and action in the form of education and grassroots legislative advocacy geared to mobilize our communities like never before.
