Annandale, Virginia – Today, the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) held a press conference with Just Neighbors to announce next week’s information session for Korean American, Asian American and all DACA-eligible community members about Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of U.S Citizens and Lawful Permanent Resident (DAPA) at the Annandale United Methodist Church (6935 Columbia Pike Annandale, VA 22003). The event will begin at 6:30 PM on Thursday, August 13. and open with a presentation about the initial DACA program and DACA renewal, followed by a brined introduction to DAPA.
NAKASEC will answer any questions from community members about DAPA after the presentation. The event will also include an opportunity for community members to receive assistance with applying for initial DACA and DACA renewals on the date of the event. Lawyers from Just Neighbors will be present for a free legal consultation about individual DACA cases.
Jung Bin Cho, Fellow at NAKASEC, said: “I hope everyone in the community comes out to learn about DACA and take advantage of the free legal consultation. DACA has allowed me to work, go to school, and pay in-state tuition for these past three years. With this year being the third anniversary of DACA I hope all eligible community members will come forward and enroll to receive these benefits.”
NAKASEC encouraged community members to continue to apply for the existing DACA program, both as initial applicants and renewing applicants. Community members were also reminded to prepare in advance for expanded DACA and DAPA, but to remember that these programs are currently not open for enrollment due to the Texas lawsuit halting the implementation of expanded DACA and DAPA.
