Ten Year Anniversary of September 11
A Time for Reflection, Remembrance and Recommitment to Service & Democracy
The National Korean American Service & Education Consortium and its affiliates the Korean American Resource & Cultural Center in Chicago and the Korean Resource Center in Los Angeles solemnly reflect on the events of September 11 and its aftermath. In the wake of tragedy came policies that served only to divide our communities and undermine the basic civil liberties of all Americans. Immigrants, Arab Americans, Muslim Americans and Sikh Americans became the targets of discriminatory measures that engendered an environment of fear and hate.
On this important anniversary, NAKASEC and affiliates honor the victims and heroes of this day and recommit ourselves to service, democracy and diversity and stand by protecting fundamental freedoms and basic human rights as well as our need for safety and security.
NAKASEC, along with more than 70 other national civil rights, human rights, and civil liberties organizations, was a signatory of the Leadership Council for Civil Rights Shared Statement of Principles for September 11. Download here.
