It’s Official: Countdown for Community Members to Apply for Expanded DACA Begins
USCIS to begin accepting requests for expanded DACA on February 18
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has officially publicized, Wednesday, February 18, as its first day to accept applications for the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This expansion will open the door for more hardworking immigrants, many of whom are Korean American.
Dae Joong (DJ) Yoon, National Korean American Service and Education Consortium, said: “Our community has been energized hearing that USCIS has officially announced when it will begin accepting requests for expanded DACA, a program that will open up doors for hardworking community members who call this country their own. Despite the mean-spirited attacks on the President’s executive actions on immigration, NAKASEC and its affiliates, the Korean Resource Center (KRC) and Korean American Resource & Cultural Center (KRCC), have continued to inform our communities and prepare for the application rollout of expanded DACA. We will protect what we have won with DACA and DAPA and will continue to urge our elected officials and those involved in the anti-immigrant lawsuits to stop attacking hardworking immigrant families and put that energy towards working together to find a permanent solution to the broken immigration system.”
USCIS notes that the changes to the DACA program include:
Expanding the population eligible for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to people of any current age who entered the United States before the age of 16 and lived in the United States continuously since January 1, 2010, and extending the period of DACA and work authorization from two years to three years.
