College Voter Registration Competition: “Young Voices Matter”

KRC invited various college groups to participate in their first College Voter Registration Competition to engage the Asian American Pacific Islander community in Illinois. Congratulations to the Filipinos In Alliance (FIA) from the University of Illinois at Chicago for winning KRCC’s competition!  Twelve college groups participated and together they registered 480 voters in the month of September.

The competition highlighted the need to engage more youths in civic participation.  As Kim Navoa, of UIC Asian American Students in Alliance Vice President External, explained, “Asian American Students in Alliance is participating in the voter registration competition because as youth leaders and first time voters, we understand the power of young people to make change and the importance of making sure the Asian American community makes our voices heard. It’s important to us that our community not only votes but understands WHY they should vote– to help secure the future that they want to become a reality.”

KRCC will hold its “Young Voices Matter” Award Ceremony on Oct. 10 at KRCC’s Office: 6146 North Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60659 (Contact Chan Kho Kim:  chankho@chicagokrcc.org)
