National APA Call-In Day for Humane & Just Immigration Reform

May 19, 2006

In recent months, immigrants across the country have flooded the streets like never before. Now is the time to keep up this historic grassroots momentum by flooding the halls of Congress with thousands of phone calls.

The stakes are high for all of us.Last December the House passed the draconian bill, H.R. 4437, that would criminalize millions of undocumented immigrants, including 1.6 million children, and anyone who has contact with them. This week, the Senate will resume the immigration debate and the outcome will have an impact on generations to come.

It is urgent for lawmakers to make a genuine and meaningful attempt at fixing our failing immigration system with a just and humane immigration reform law that:

1. Reunites Families

2. Provides a Path to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants

3. Allows young immigrants to reach their full potential through access to college

4. Respects All Workers

5. Recognizes that our economy is strengthened by immigrant workers

6. Restores and Protects Civil Rights, Civil Liberties, and Due Process

ACT NOW!

1. CALL 202-224-3121 to reach your members of Congress.

(To find your member of Congress, visit www.congress.org and enter your zip code.)

2. CALL 202-456-1111 to reach The White House.

Suggested message:

Hello, my name is (your NAME) and I am calling from (your CITY, STATE).I urge you to oppose bills such as H.R. 4437. This is not a solution to fixing our nation’s failed immigration system. We need realistic, workable and humane immigration reform legislation that will provide a path to citizenship for hardworking immigrants, keep families together and protects our civil rights, liberties and due process. Thank you.”
