Ringing in the Year of the Dog

By March 29, 2006No Comments

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, NAKASEC affiliates and their cultural troupes held its annual Jishin Balgpi (“Stepping on the Spirit of the Earth”) Festival in Korean American communities across the nation. Under a steady shower of rain, YKASEC’s BINARI rang in the new year singing and dancing to the beating of drums in Flushing and in Manhattan. In Los Angeles, KRC’s HanNurRi visited more than 200 stores and businesses in the heart of Koreatown wishing good fortune to all in the coming year. KRCC and Il Kwa Nori traveled all over the Chicago metropolitan area wishing peace and prosperity to 23 local businesses and performed, for the first time, at the Daley Center Plaza in downtown Chicago. And, NAKASEC’s sister troupe SoRi-MoRi celebrated the new year in Philadelphia. In each city, other local and college campus poongmul troupes joined in the festivities to raise funds that were donated to support issues related to immigrant rights, redress for former comfort women, and rebuilding efforts in New Orleans.
