NAKASEC Statement on the Confirmation Hearing of Goodwin Liu
(Los Angeles, CA) Despite a postponement of his hearing by the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 16, this past Friday, Professor Goodwin Liu, nominated for a seat on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, addressed the Committee at his hearing chaired by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). If confirmed, Liu would be the only Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) among the 25 active federal appellate court judges in the Ninth Circuit.

NAKASEC executive director, EunSook Lee said: “The son of Taiwanese immigrants, Liu’s story should inspire us all. He is a graduate of Stanford University, Oxford University, and Yale Law School and has built a formidable and highly-respected career in law and academics. Support for Liu’s nomination spans both sides of the political spectrum. Given his qualifications and the extent of endorsements he has gathered, the Senate should not delay his confirmation any longer. Each day that partisan obstruction prevents Liu from occupying this judicial seat, not only is justice for our communities delayed, but the integrity of our judicial system suffers. NAKASEC and its affiliates reiterate the widespread call for the immediate confirmation of Mr. Liu.”
