Staff Profiles

EunSook Lee, Executive Director, oversees all NAKASEC programs and policy work and is responsible for program planning, development and evaluation, fundraising & grant writing, media & publicity, board communications and financial management. Prior to working at NAKASEC, Eun Sook was the executive director of Korean American Women In Need, a bilingual domestic violence service agency in Chicago and Station Manager at CKLN Radio, Inc. in Toronto. EunSook is currently vice-chair of the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans and a board member of the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development and the Korean Resource Center.

Jeong Yeon Hong, Community Education and Administrative Director, oversees Korean language publications and communications including media and website as well as translations. She also oversees a project on credit education as part of a larger program goal of creating a comprehensive economic empowerment program. Jeong Yeon also assists with completing expense reports, and providing logistical support for all programs, annual banquets, events, meetings and conferences. She manages the membership donors program, vendor relations, and Board of Directors. Jeong Yeon served previously a NAKASEC Program Fellow from 2004-05 and joined the staff in February 2007. Jeong Yeon graduated from Sung Kyun Kwan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics.

Hemi Kim, D.C. Director, serves as NAKASEC’s D.C. representative by keeping abreast of current political issues and proposals and communicates NAKASEC’s position to constituents and legislators to obtain their support. Her responsibilities also include identifying and developing opportunities to deepen collaborative work with national and D.C. based organizations. She has worked in immigrant and health policy advocacy & analysis as the former Policy Analyst at the Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum, Health Policy Advocate at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center of Southern California, as well as Korean American community engagement as Administrator of the Korean American Coalition in D.C.

HyunJoo Lee, National Organizing Coordinator, is responsible for coordinating a national and local non-partisan voter education and mobilization campaign, including voter registration and voter assistance. HyunJoo works to develop and maintain strong relationships with key national and local Asian Pacific American and immigrant civic participation groups. She coordinates national trainings for youth and community leaders and advocates for policies protecting voter and immigrant rights. Before joining NAKASEC, HyunJoo served as a Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador where she worked with rural farmers and youth in local community development projects. She also worked as the regional coordinator for Free the Planet, a student environmental activist network, in the New England area. She received her B.A. from Boston College in Political Science and English.

Nicole Montojo, Program Associate, provides support for NAKASEC’s work in the areas of community education and civic engagement. She is responsible for assisting with the naturalization clinic as well as coordinating e-publications and outreach materials for various campaigns and projects. Nicole comes to NAKASEC through Public Allies, a national Americorps program. She graduated from Scripps College with a B.A. in Sociology and Urban Studies. As a student, she served as an Admissions Outreach Coordinator for students of color, an active member of the Asian American Student Union, and student representative to the Claremont Colleges’ Intercollegiate Department of Asian American Studies.

Olivia Jee-Un Park, Program Associate, works largely in the immigrant rights program, including immigrant inclusion in health reform.  Olivia graduated from Wellesley College with a B.A. in Political Science.  As a student, she served as a passionate and active board member of both the Korean Students Association and the Wellesley Asian Alliance.

Jiwon Park, Program Fellow, provides support for NAKASEC’s Korean language publications and translation of media materials. Jiwon also manages the membership donors programs. Jiwon comes to NAKASEC through the May 18 Memorial Foundation for which she served as a representative of volunteers. Jiwon graduated from Chonnam National University with a degree in German literature and Agricultural economics.
